Your Profile Is a Sanctuary: Introducing Premium Customization

The World Team|

When we started building World, we kept coming back to one question. What did the early internet feel like that the modern internet has lost?

It wasn't the dial up tones or the blinking GIFs. It was the feeling that you owned a small piece of the web. A corner of the internet that looked like you, sounded like you, and existed because you wanted it to. A place that wasn't optimized for engagement metrics or sliced into a feed by an algorithm. A place that felt like a room in your house.

That feeling has a name. Sanctuary.

What we mean by sanctuary

A sanctuary is a place you go to feel like yourself. It is private when you need it to be, social when you want it to be, and styled the way you want it styled. It does not change overnight because someone in a meeting decided users prefer rounded corners this quarter. It is yours.

The modern social internet does not give people sanctuaries. It gives people slots. Same template, same fonts, same color palette, same six allowed avatar shapes, infinite scroll. Your "personal page" is personal in the same way a hotel room is personal. You can leave a toothbrush on the counter.

We think people deserve more than that. We think the room should actually be yours.

What we are launching

Today we are rolling out the first wave of premium customization features on World. This is the start, not the end. The vision is bigger than what is shipping in week one, but week one is enough to start building the kind of profiles we have been dreaming about since day one.

Premium customization includes:

Custom CSS. Full control over the look of your profile. Background, fonts, colors, borders, post panels, scrollbars, hover states, animations. Bring your own taste. We built this so that anyone, from a beginner pasting in a template to a designer writing every line by hand, can shape their page.

Template library. We are launching with twenty five starter templates across aesthetics like Dark Barbie, Hip Hop Gold, Cottagecore, Cyberpunk Neon, Forest Witch, Comic Book, Vaporwave, and more. Paste, save, done. You can use them as is or treat them as a starting point and remix from there.

Custom avatars and banners. Square, circle, or anything in between. Animated banners. Layered art. Whatever fits the world you are building.

Featured sections. Pin the things that matter to you at the top of your page. A song. A poem. A list of friends. A manifesto. A photo of your dog. Whatever it is, it should be the first thing visitors see.

Custom URLs. Your name, your slug, your link.

Why this matters to us

A profile is not a product surface. It is a person. When you take away someone's ability to decorate their own room, you are not making the room cleaner. You are telling them their taste does not matter, and that the platform's taste is the only taste that counts. That is the opposite of what social should feel like.

We want World to feel like the kind of place where you walk into someone's profile and immediately know something true about them before you read a single word. The same way walking into someone's apartment tells you who they are. The lighting. The posters on the wall. The records stacked on the floor. The candle that smells like their grandmother's house.

That is the bar. We want profiles to feel like that.

What is next

This is the first wave. We are already working on the next set of features. Custom audio embeds so your page can have a soundtrack. Visitor guestbooks. Mood pages that change based on time of day. Friend layouts you can arrange yourself. Community themes that members can opt into. Profile songs. Top friends. The good stuff.

If you have ideas, we want to hear them. World is being built in public and the people who show up early shape what it becomes.

Welcome to the sanctuary. Make it yours.
